PUBLIC VIEWPOINT: A Few Driving Questions For Everyone

What has happened to the common courtesy, not to mention the law of using a turn signal when changing lanes or making a turn?

Or moving out of the left lane if you aren’t even doing the speed limit?

And I’m tired of seeing cars/trucks with nonworking brake lights!

Or headlights that don’t work and broken/cracked windshields.

It’s time for Arkansas to bring back annual inspections for any vehicle that travels on the road.

Also, please check your trailer lights before you pull out with it. I drive a semi for a living and I will get a fine if my lights don’t work. I don’t even want to think what the fine would be if I didn’t even bother to hook the lights up.

Now, my second subject.

As a commercial vehicle operator, if I’m using a cell phone without a hands-free device and get caught, I’ll get a $2,750 fine. Why don’t we pass a law that says the same for noncommercial vehicle drivers? Don’t you think that would cut the accidents in half, if not more?

When it comes to texting I have to say, first off, I don’t get it. Why would someone want to spend time texting if he can talk to the other person? The texting thing makes me think.

If we have all these smartphones with built-in GPS that knows where you are and that you need to turn right at the next stop light, why can’t the cellphone companies or manufacturers make the phones so if the phone is moving over 3 to 5 mph you can only dial 911 unless you use voice dial? My cellphone has voice dial and I love it.

By making the phone so you can’t use the keypad would guarantee no more accidents by texting while driving.

Also when did we become so important that we can’t go anywhere without a cell phone?

I leave my cell in the truck/car or even home when I go out to eat. The last thing I want to hear is about your upcoming colonoscopy when I’m eating, and for God’s sake, I really don’t need to hear you on the phone when I’m in the restroom.
