Courthouse to bear Civil War marker

— A Civil War Sesquicentennial historical marker has been approved for Cleburne County to commemorate the Civil War years in that county, according to the Arkansas Civil War Sesquicentennial Commission.

The marker will be placed at the Cleburne County Courthouse in Heber Springs. Cleburne County and the Cleburne County United Daughters of the Confederacy Chapter 1757 are sponsoring the marker.

The commission works with local partners to recall events related to the war or to tell stories about the Civil War’s effects on Arkansas communities.

The commission approves markers as part of its responsibility to sanction events and observances commemorating the 150th anniversary of the 1861-1865 war.

Applications and other information on the historical marker program and a calendar of planned events are available on the commission’s website, arkansascivilwar150.com.
