City staff from each department, elected officials and representatives from local organizations will be on tap to answer residents’ questions and share information about activities.

“We envision this event as an opportunity for the community to ask city and business leaders questions,” said Mayor Bob McCaslin. “We hope residents will take away an understanding of what we all do collectively to build a thriving sustainable city filled with cultural, educational and recreational opportunities for everyone.”

Parks and Recreation Department staff will be available to give updates on the city’s planned community center in southwest Bentonville. Site work is under way on the project that will house an indoor pool, meeting rooms and fitness facilities.

The staff will also provide information on sports programs and wellness activities for the latter part of 2012 and upcoming in 2013.

The parks and recreation booth will provide information about the November opening of the ice skating rink at Lawrence Plaza. A full docket of programs are planned for the winter season and will be available at the expo, said David Wright, parks and recreation director.

“We’ll be able to take people from A to Z on any of the programs we have here,” Wright said. “We can talk to them about our Friday night concert series in the summer, our movies at Lawrence Plaza or tell what it’s like to walk down the Crystal Bridges Trail.”

The Bentonville Public Library will set up a crafts station for families to complete a take-home art project during the expo. Different projects will be available for toddlers and elementary school children, according to a news release.

Residents can meet their elected representatives in the lead-up to the Nov. 6 election. Candidates for City Council will be on hand to talk with voters and answer questions.

Police and fire department crews will perform equipment demonstrations, and city planners will discuss redevelopment on North Walton Boulevard.

Local groups set to have representatives at the expo include the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, the Bentonville/Bella Vista Chamber of Commerce, the Bentonville Convention and Visitors Bureau, Downtown Bentonville Inc., NorthWest Arkansas Community College and Ozark Regional Transit.
