Southside blasts off after error

— The last thing the Little Rock Catholic Rockets needed was Fort Smith Southside to get off to a fast start. But the Rockets fumbled on their second play, and it was all downhill from there.

Junior quarterback Isaac Jackson passed for two touchdowns and ran for two more as Southside romped over the Rockets 49-20 in a 7A/6ACentral Conference game Friday night at War Memorial Stadium.

After Russell Bragg recovered a fumble at the Rockets’ 32, Jackson scored five plays later on a 5-yard run. Coady Wooten kicked the extra point.

The Rebels (3-2, 2-0) made it 14-0 on David Price’s 7-yard run with 4:45 left in the first quarter. A 52-yard run by Jackson set up the score. He finished 4 of 6 passing for 144 yards and ran 7 times for 72 yards.

“He made some great throws and had some good runs,” Rebels Coach Jeff Williams said. “The line came off the ball well and jumped on them quick. When you get on the road, you want to get a lead. I thought we did a good job of that.”

Catholic (1-4, 1-1) showed life with a 68-yard, seven play drive. Zac Pinter tossed a 13-yard scoring pass to Jacob Currence on the second play of the second half for the touchdown. The extra point was missed.

The rest of the Rockets’ points came in the final quarter, including a touchdown pass with one second remaining.

“I really don’t have much to say,” Rockets Coach David Estes said. “We just got our tails kicked.”

With a 14-6 lead, Jackson hit Wooten on a 59-yard touchdown pass with 9:30 left in the half and followed that with a 50-yard pass to Payton Efurd at the 5:29 mark. Wooten kicked both extra points for a 28-6 lead.

CONWAY 63, LITTLE ROCK HALL 6

Senior tailback Jeff Anderson ran 15 times for 124 yards and 2 touchdowns to lead Conway over Little Rock Hall at Scott Field in Little Rock.

T.J. Ruth added 74 yards rushing and 2 touchdowns on 7 carries for the Wampus Cats (4-0, 2-0 7A/6A-Central).

Conway finished with more than 400 total yards and seven players scored.
