4-3A CONFERENCE

Charleston, Storey strike quickly in second half

— It took slightly more than three minutes at the outset of the second half for Charleston to turn a close game into a rout Friday night against Paris.

Charleston quarterback Ty Storey threw three touchdown passes in the first 3:08 of the third quarter after Charleston led 12-7 at halftime, and the Tigers (4-1, 2-0 in 4-3A) were on their way to a 46-20 victory.

“Three touchdowns in about three minutes, you just can’t make mistakes like that,” Paris Coach Bryan Hutsonsaid. “If you take away those three minutes this is a great ballgame.”

Storey completed 25 of 37 passes for 438 yards and 6 touchdowns for the Tigers. But Paris (3-2, 1-1) held Storey to 15 completions in 26 attempts for 188 yards and 2 touchdowns in the first half and appeared to be keeping the Tigers’ no huddle offense in check.

The Tigers took over on the Eagles’ 48, and Storey led them on a 7-play 48-yard scoring drive that was capped by a 4-yard touchdown pass from Storey to Shelby. The Tigers missed the extra pointto make it 34-7 with 8:52 left in the third quarter and Paris was unable to get closer than 20 points again.

“I told them that we really had to come out strong to start the second half and you could see the momentum swing,” Charleston Coach Doug Loughridge said.

Paris came out using a power running game to drive 45 yards on 9 plays. Payton McClure capped the drive with a 3-yard touchdown run with 7:29 left in the first quarter.

Charleston came back with Storey leading the Tigers on a 15-play, 70-yard drive. Storey completed 7 of 9 passes for 58 yards, including a touchdown pass to Josh Moore for a 3-yard touchdown with 3:13 left in thefirst quarter. The two-point conversion attempt was unsuccessful and Paris led 7-6.
