Women Hit In Drive-By Dart Shootings

— Two women have been shot with darts by a man driving a light-colored car during the past week in Rogers.

Police were called to Kohl’s department store, 301 N. 46th St., at 5:38 p.m. Wednesday after the manager reported a woman shot with a dart in the parking lot.

Katia Banel Flores, 21, was leaving the store with her mother when she was hit by the dart, said Keith Foster, public information officer.

“They were coming out of the store,” Foster said. “He stopped and let her pass and then shot her in the back with a dart.”

Flores ran into the store in tears, said Gwen Adams, Kohl’s manager, who called police. The dart hit Flores in the back of the shoulder.

“It actually went through her jacket and her clothing,” Adams said.

Emergency medical personnel checked Flores, but she was not hospitalized, according to a police news release.

Police were called at 7:39 p.m. Sept. 21 after Leigh-Ann Archuleta, 19, was hit in the neck with a dart at 1203 W. Olive St. Witnesses at the scene described hearing a loud “pop” as Archuleta was hit, according to a police news release. She was taken to Mercy Medical Center where the dart was removed.

The driver left the scene heading west on Olive Street, then turned on 13th Street, according to police logs.

In both incidents the women were hit by a 4-inch, needlelike dart, Foster said, and both incidents are under investigation. The darts are the kind used in a blow gun, according to a police news release.

Witnesses at Kohl’s described the car as a cream or beige vehicle, possibly a Nissan, driven by a man.

In the first incident the vehicle was described as a white, newer-model Toyota Corolla.
