— VOLLEYBALL Arkansas Tech sweeps OBU

Sara Motsinger had 12 kills, Brittany Ryan had 10 kills and 10 blocks and Arkansas Tech (11-5, 3-1 Great American Conference) swept Ouachita Baptist (4-11, 1-3) 25-18, 25-11, 25-19 on Tuesday night at Tucker Coliseum in Russellville.

UAM sweeps Henderson State

Amy Keypas had eight kills and Victoria Bozzo had seven to help Arkansas-Monticello (4-10, 1-3) sweep Henderson State (3-10, 0-4) 25-20, 25-21, 29-27 on Tuesday at Steelman Fieldhouse in Monticello. Jessica Moss had 12 kills for Henderson State.

GOLF Hurst selected to All-America Team

Conley Hurst, a senior at Episcopal Collegiate, has been named to the 2012 HP Scholastic Junior All-America Team. Hurst is the only Arkansan and one of 24 golfers (12 boys, 12 girls) in the country to be selected to the team.

To be eligible to apply for the team, boys must have placed in the top 10 of an American Junior Golf Association Open, Regional Golf Championship or Invitational. The selections were then based on grade point average, class rank, SAT/ACT scores, community service and writing ability.

Hurst recorded two top-15 AJGA finishes during the 2012 season. He opened the summer with an 11th-place finish at the AJGA Music City Junior and finished in a tie for ninth at the William Penn Junior Championship. Hurst’s academics are highlighted by a 4.35 weighted GPA.

Rucker tied for third

Arkansas Tech’s Graham Rucker tied for third after a final-round 2-over-par 74 on Tuesday at the NSU Golf Classic in Broken Arrow, Okla. Rucker finished with a 1-over 145, while Rowdy Garrett tied for eighth with a 3-over 147. Arkansas Tech finished sixth as a team with a 606.

OUTDOORS Richenback to receive award

Ducks Unlimited will honor Butch Richenback with its eighth annual Jerry Jones Sportsman’s Award Oct. 4 at Chenal Country Club in Little Rock.

Richenback is the founder of Rich-N-Tone duck calls. He has won the the World’s Championship Duck Calling Contest and is a member of the Arkansas Outdoor Hall of Fame. Since 1969, he has encouraged youngsters to enter competitive duck calling through his annual youth calling clinic.

The event will begin at 6 p.m. and will include live and silent auctions. Proceeds will support DU’s Green Wing Initiatives.
