FAYETTEVILLE — Police said a routine traffic stop Tuesday led to the discovery of a weapon and $880 in fake cash.
David Samson, 46, of 5090 E. Huntsville Road in Fayetteville faces felony charges in connection with possession of a firearm by certain persons and forgery.
Fayetteville police stopped a green Chevrolet Trailblazer swerving on North College Avenue at 2:56 a.m. Tuesday.
Samson said the transmission was failing and his vehicle was difficult to control, according to the preliminary arrest report.
Officers saw a .22-caliber rifle in the car and Samson told them the weapon wasn’t his, according to the report.
Samson has a felony conviction and cannot legally own a firearm, according to police.
He was arrested and taken to the Washington County Detention Center where officers found $880 of fake money in his wallet.
Samson was in the jail without bond Tuesday.
