— GOLF Razorbacks finish tied for 11th

Senior Austin Cook carded a 1-over-par 71 to lead the Arkansas men’s team to a tie for 11th at the PING/Golfweek Preview at the Capital City Club in Atlanta, on Tuesday.

The Razorbacks finished tournament with a three-round score of 869, 29-over par. Georgia Tech and California finished tied for first at 5 over.

Shooting 4-over for the tournament, Cook tied for 22nd individually with his three-round 214.

Arkansas-Fort Smith men finish eighth

Sophomore Dylan Lovell shot a 7-over-par 151 to lead the Arkansas-Fort Smith men’s team to an eighth-place finish at The Territory Classic on Tuesday in Duncan, Okla.

Arkansas-Fort Smith shot 44-over 620 (306-314) and finished 17 strokes behind champion Incarnate Word, which carded a 27-over 603 to win the 12-team, two-day event hosted by Cameron University.

Lovell shot rounds of 76 and 75 and finished tied for 15th. Senior Josh Buchanan shot an 8-over 152 and finished tied for 18th. Texas A&M-Commerce’s Patrick Russo won with a 1-over 145.

ASU’s Laker wins in Kansas

Arkansas State’s Abigail Laker shot a final-round, 2-under-par 70 to earn medalist honors at the Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational on Tuesday in Lawrence, Kan. She finished with a 54-hole total of 213.

Kansas posted a final-round 305 to win the tournament with a 906, 21 strokes ahead of Arkansas State. UALR finished with a 953 for ninth place of 13 teams.

UALR senior Emelie Westrup shot a 73 in the final round to finish in a tie for third place at 222.

UALR men finish fourth in Kentucky

UALR senior Nicklaus Benton shot an even-par 72 in Tuesday’s final round to take second place at the Cardinal Intercollegiate in Simponsville, Ky

Sophomore Alfred Kerstis shot a 1-under 71 to tie for third and the Trojans finished fourth in the team standings.

UALR shot an even-par 288 to tie for the lowest round of the day and finished at 7-over 871.

FOOTBALL Love suspended for first half

Central Arkansas defensive back Jestin Love was suspended by the Southland Conference for the first half of the Bears game at Stephen F. Austin on Saturday after a hit on a Sam Houston State player last week, the league announced Tuesday.

Love, a junior from West Memphis, was suspended for “targeting and initiating contact to the head or neck area of an opposing player.” VOLLEYBALL Harding’s Short earns defensive honor

Harding’s Alyssa Short was named Great American Conference defensive player of the week.

Short, a junior middle blocker, led Harding with 15 blocks, 1.67 a set, this past week. She had seven in a 3-2 victory over Arkansas Tech and had eight in a 3-1 victory over Ouachita Baptist.

Hendrix wins pair

Hendrix College swept Rust College and Central Baptist on Tuesday night at Grove Gymnasium in Conway.

The Warriors (6-9) beat Rust (4-8) 25-9, 25-22, 25-12 and then beat Central Baptist (5-10) 25-16, 25-11, 25-16.

Senior Melissa Clement had 11 kills against Rust and had 13 against Central Baptist.

UAFS tops Harding

Arkansas-Fort Smith beat visiting Harding 20-25, 25-21, 25-16, 25-12 on Tuesday to extend its winning streak to 10 matches.

Heidi Luks had 23 kills and 14 digs, while Jordan PIckett had 13 kills for the Lions (11-1).

Mollie Arnold had 13 kills and Marindia Turner had 11 for Harding (10-4), which had won seven consecutive matches.

CROSS COUNTRY Arkansas’ duo recognized by SEC

Arkansas’ Kermoy Campbell and Cale Wallace were named SEC runner of the week and freshman of the week, respectively.

Campbell pulled away late to win the individual title at the Virginia/Panorama Invitational in Earlysville, Va. He crossed the finish line in with a 8,000-meter time of 24 minutes, 4.7 seconds, more than seven seconds ahead of the second-place runner.

Wallace was fifth in the Razorbacks’ lineup in Virginia. He finished in 28th place overall with a time of 25:10.3.
