— JETS Revis has torn ACL

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. - The NFL’s top shutdown cornerback will likely be shut down for the season.

Darrelle Revis has a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee that will require surgery, a huge blow for the New York Jets that leaves Coach Rex Ryan without his best defensive player.

Ryan stopped short of ruling Revis out for the season Monday, saying he just learned of the magnetic resonance imaging results. But Revis will have to wait two or three weeks before surgery, Ryan said, and the recovery from an ACL tear is usually 6 to 9 months. So the chances of Revis returning this season appear extremely slim.

Ryan added that he will speak with Revis before the team decides whether he will be placed on injured reserve, a move that could happen as early as Tuesday.

The 27-year-old Revis was injured in the third quarter of the Jets’ 23-20 overtime victory at Miami on Sunday, falling awkwardly and grabbing his knee even before he hit the grass. It was was Revis’ first game after missing a week with a concussion sustained in the season opener against Buffalo. He had missed only three games before this season, all in 2010.

Thomas, Turner back

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. - Bryan Thomas is back with the New York Jets.

The outside linebacker was resigned Monday, along with wide receiver Patrick Turner, two days after the Jets surprisingly cut their longest-tenured player.

Thomas was told Saturday by General Manager Mike Tannenbaum and coach Rex Ryan that the Jets had to make a roster move “for the better of the team” but promised to bring him back before elevating cornerback Donnie Fletcher from the practice squad in time for New York’s game at Miami on Sunday.

COLTS

Collie to miss season

INDIANAPOLIS - Indianapolis Colts receiver Austin Collie will miss the rest of the season with a ruptured patellar tendon in his right knee.

Collie was injured during the second half of the 22-17 loss to Jacksonville after catching a short pass over the middle. He grabbed his head, then reached for his right knee.

A magnetic resonance imaging Monday confirmed the bad news.

BUCCANEERS

Clayborn placed on IR

TAMPA, Fla. - Tampa Bay defensive end Adrian Clayborn will miss the rest of the season because of a right knee injury that will require surgery.

Buccaneers Coach Greg Schiano made the announcement Monday, a day after Clayborn was hurt during the second half of a 16-10 loss to the Dallas Cowboys.

The second-year pro had two tackles and no sacks in three games this season.

TEXANS

Normal day for Schaub

HOUSTON - Houston Texans Coach Gary Kubiak said quarterback Matt Schaub went through his normal Monday routine and looked “fine” the day after losing a bit of his left ear lobe in a victory in Denver.

The Texans moved to 3-0 for the first time in franchise history by beating old nemesis Peyton Manning and his new team Sunday.

Schaub took a beating in Denver, sacked on Houston’s first snap for a safety and then lost his helmet and a chunk of his ear on a vicious hit by Joe Mays.

Schaub still tied a career high with four touchdown passes and only missed one snap after Mays dazed him ,.

RAIDERS

Receiver out of hospital

ALAMEDA, Calif. - Oakland Raiders wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey was released from the hospital a day after being knocked out by a helmet-to-helmet hit and is expected to make a full recovery.

Heyward-Bey suffered a concussion and a strained neck on the hit from Pittsburgh safety Ryan Mundy that stopped the game Sunday for more than 10 minutes as Heyward-Bey had to regain consciousness before being carted off the field and taken to the hospital.

There was no penalty called on the play by the replacement officials.

Coach Dennis Allen said Heyward-Bey sounded tired when he talked with him and there is no word on when he will be cleared to return to the field.

“The concussion is obviously the bigger issue than anything else right now,” Allen said.

DOLPHINS

Bush injury not serious

DAVIE, Fla. - Reggie Bush sent out a tweet saying he had good news, and privately told teammates he expects to be fine.

Even on the day after a loss, there was some relief for the Miami Dolphins.

Tests performed on Bush’s left knee showed no serious injury Monday, meaning the Dolphins (1-2) may have their top offensive player available this weekend when they travel to face unbeaten Arizona (3-0). His last carry came just before halftime of Miami’s 23-20 overtime loss against the New York Jets on Sunday, when he limped off the field and clearly was in pain.

“He’s healthy and he’ll be able to contribute,” offensive lineman Richie Incognito said.

Bush got hurt on a first-down carry from the Miami 20 with about a halfminute left until halftime.

NFL Coaches fined

NEW YORK - The NFL fined Denver Coach John Fox $30,000 and defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio $25,000 Monday for arguing with replacement officials a week ago.

“There is a longstanding NFL rule prohibiting verbal or physical abuse of game officials,” NFL executive vice president of football operations Ray Anderson said.

Anderson also said he is reviewing the conduct of New England Coach Bill Belichick and Baltimore’s John Harbaugh in Sunday night’s game. Anderson also is looking at the actions of Redskins offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan in Washington’s loss to Cincinnati.

FALCONS Abraham arrested

ATLANTA - Atlanta Falcons defensive end John Abraham was arrested Monday night on two misdemeanor obstruction charges when he allegedly refused to leave an area taped off by police.

Fulton County jail records showed Abraham remained in jail late Monday night pending bond of $7,000, or $3,500 for each of the obstruction charges.

WAGA-TV reported Abraham allegedly entered a taped-off area where a woman was threatening to jump off a building. Abraham was arrested after refusing requests from firefighters and police to leave the area.

The 34-year-old Abraham is the NFL’s active career leader with 114 sacks.
