PARIS — Mount Magazine State Park near Paris will be the site of a historic encampment from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday. Living historians will demonstrate 1820 s-erafirearms, cooking, camping equipment and other survival skills that helped the first settlers.
In the 1820s, the Arkansas River valley was relatively unexplored. Native Americans, hunters, soldiers and explorers were the first to visit Mount Magazine during that era.
