County Assessor’s Office Receives Award

— The Washington County Assessor’s Office received the state’s first award from an international property assessment association.

The International Association of Assessing Officers gave the county the Certificate of Excellence in Assessment Administration at a recent conference in Kansas City, according to an announcement from Jeff Williams, county assessor.

Williams’ office submitted almost 1,500 documents detailing the county’s property assessment operation. Washington County was among 10 assessing jurisdictions to receive the award this year, including four counties in Florida and two appraisal districts in Texas, according to the association’s website.

The association gave 23 awards dating back to 2004. The country has an estimated 4,500 assessing jurisdictions in the country, Williams said in his announcement.

The county applied for the award that included a $100 registration fee and a $1,000 evaluation fee.

“To earn this award, you must utilize best practice and procedures in every aspect of your operations. In the assessing world, this is the pinnacle of success,” Williams said.
