Smith to address LR Touchdown Club

Arkansas football Coach John L. Smith will be the guest speaker at today’s Little Rock Touchdown Club luncheon at Emabassy Suites in west Little Rock.

The cost is $15 for members, $25 for nonmembers and $10 for those who want to attend but not eat. Club memberships are $50. Lunch will be served at 11 a.m. and the program begins around noon.

UA ties South Carolina

Jeriann Okoro’s goal in the 56th minute gave Arkansas a momentary lead, but Danielle Au’s goal in the 70th minute tied the score and the teams played through two overtimes before finishing with a 1-1 tie on Sunday in Fayetteville.

South Carolina (3-4-3, 0-2-2 SEC) finished with a 16-11 shot advantage but Arkansas (4-5-1, 1-2-1) held a 7-5 advantage in shots on goal.

ASU falls to Middle Tennessee

Middle Tennessee scored two first-half goals to beat Arkansas State on Sunday in Murfressboro, Tenn.

Kate Loye scored in the fifth minute and Emily Jorgenson added another goal in the 42nd minute to give Middle Tennessee (7-3, 2-0) a 2-0 lead at halftime. Katey Carmichael scored her fourth goal of the season in the 69th minute to get ASU (6-4, 0-2 Sun Belt Conference) within 2-1.

UALR falls to Western Kentucky

Nicholette Sarton and Lauren Moats each scored two goals to help Western Kentucky beat UALR 5-0 on Sunday in Bowling Green, Ky.

Western Kentucky (7-3, 2-0 Sun Belt Conference) out shot UALR (1-9, 0-2) 36-1 and 13-1 in shots on goal.

Gayla Cohen had UALR’s only shot on goal.

Lucar, UCA, top Texas Southern

Adriana Lucar scored three goals and Central Arkansas beat Texas Southern 5-2 on Sunday in Houston.

It was the third time this season Lucar had scored three goals in the game and her first goal came in the second minute. Lucar then assisted Cassie Lange’s goal in the fourth minute and Janae Gonzalez also scored for UCA (8-2) in the first half.

Lucar’s other two goals came in the second half and Texas Southern fell to 1-7.

Harding ties Southern Nazarene

Jenna Taylor’s goal in the 77th minute tied Harding with Southern Nazarene on Sunday, and the teams played through two overtimes to a 2-2 tie in Bethany, Okla.

Adair Schmidt gave Harding (2-3-1, 1-0-1 Great American Conference) a 1-0 lead with a goal in the 10th minute.

Ozarks men, women win

The Ozarks men’s soccer team scored twice in the second half to beat Schreiner on Saturday in Clarksville. Josh Duncan and Dylan Amacher each scored for Ozarks (1-5-1, 1-3 American Southwest Conference).

The Ozarks women (1-8, 1-3) beat Schreiner, too, 3-1. MaKenna Piha scored for Ozarks.

Warriors win eighth consecutive

Freshman Will Dunaway scored two goals in his first start and Dylan Reed scored on a penalty kick to lead Hendrix to a 3-1 victory over Centenary College on Sunday in Shreveport.

Dunaway’s goals came in the 14th and in the 88th minute and Reed’s goal came in the 24th minute for the Warriors (8-0-1). Centenary fell to 2-5.

Hendrix falls to Centenary

Mel Roach’s team-best ninth goal of the season in the 36th minute tied the game Sunday, but Madison Alexander’s second goal of the game in the 64th minute gave Centenary a 2-1 victory over Hendrix on Sunday in Shreveport.

Alexander’s first goal came in the 27th minute before Roach tied the game at 1-1 at halftime. Hendrix fell to 4-4 and Centenary improved to 3-3-1.

VOLLEYBALL

Arkansas sweeps Georgia

Roslandy Acosta had 12 kills and Arkansas swept Georgia 25-16, 25-23, 25-18 on Sunday in Athens, Ga.

The second set was tied seven different times before Arkansas (11-3, 2-1 SEC) took a 13-12 lead off an Amanda Anderson kill and never trailed again.

Raymariely Santos had 28 assists and Jasmine Norton and Emily Helm each had seven digs. Georgia fell to 8-5 overall and 2-2 in the SEC.

ASU falls at Florida International

Jasmine Terry had 12 kills for Arkansas State, but Florida International beat ASU 26-24, 25-23, 25-19 on Sunday in Miami.

Kelsie Hodges added eight kills and Allison Kearney had 24 assists and 10 digs for the Red Wolves (10-7, 1-1 Sun Belt Conference).

UALR tops FAU

UALR beat Florida Atlantic 24-26, 30-28, 26-24, 15-25, 15-9 on Sunday in Boca Raton, Fla., to complete its first Sun Belt Conference road trip of the season with a pair of victories.

UALR (6-8, 2-0) beat Florida International on Friday in Miami 25-17, 24-26, 26-24, 20-25, 15-7.

On Sunday, Edina Begic had 28 kills and 22 digs, Eva Xie had 17 kills and Adisa Hodzic added 10. Marleen de Zoete had 53 assists while Daniele Souza Moura and Allison Wyatt each had 11 digs.

Alessia Pizzocheri led FAU (3-8, 0-2) with 22 kills.

Scots lose to Park

Lyon College lost its third match in two days Sunday, when Park University beat Lyon 25-14, 25-16, 25-14 in Batesville.

Lyon, which loss to Hannibal-LaGrange and William Woods on Saturday, fell to 2-15 overall and 0-9 in the American Midwest Conference.

GOLF

Moore 2nd, Razorbacks 6th in Atlanta

Freshman Taylor Moore shot two-under-par 68 to tie for second on the first day of the PINGGolfweek Preview on Sunday in Atlanta, and Arkansas is in a tie for sixth in the team standings.

Moore started the round with 10 consecutive pars before making birdie on Nos. 11 and 12. He also made birdie on No. 17 and finished with a par on No. 18.

Senior Austin Cook shot a one-over 71, sophomore Thomas Sorensen shot a four-over 74 and freshmen Nicolas Echavarria shot a five-over 75.

Arkansas shot eight-over-par as a team to tie with Georgia for sixth and UNLV leads with a one-over par team score.

ASU’s Key turns in season best

Arkansas State’s Easton Key turned in a season-best 1-under-par 70 to finish in a tie for 32nd place at the Mason Rudolph Championship on Sunday at the Vanderbilt Legends Club in Franklin, Tenn.

Key finished with a three-round 7-over 220 for ASU, which shot an 896 to come in 15th out of 15 teams. Host Vanderbilt won the tournament with an 845.

MEN’S TENNIS

Razorbacks win two titles

Arkansas junior Pete Thomason went 3-0 in singles matches to win the Flight C championship at the Louisville Fall Invitational on Sunday. Thomason defeated West Alabama’s Honorio Fernandez in the final 6-1, 6-2.

Thomason also captured the Flight B doubles title with freshman Santiago Munoz. The pair went 4-0 over the weekend.

WOMEN’S TENNIS

UA takes four over Ole Miss

Arkansas earned four singles victories over Mississippi on Sunday at the Country Club of Little Rock.

Claudine Paulson earned her second victory of the weekend when she beat Erin Stephens 6-2, 5-7, 6-4 while Kimberley-Ann Surin, Ana Lorena Belmar Hernandez and Kristen Mee also won.

Surin beat Iris Verboven 6-0, 6-1, Belmar Hernandez beat Marlja Milutinovic 6-1, 1-6, 6-4 and Mee beat Allie Robbins 6-3, 6-3.

UALR, ASU win in Kansas

Sophomore Michaela McShane and senior Veronique Luksich each claimed victories on the final day of the KU Fall Invitational on Sunday in Lawrence, Kan.

McShane beat South Dakota’s Maria Tortoda 7-6 (2), 6-2 and Luksich won the consolation Draw B when Wichita State’s Lucia Kovalova defaulted.

Arkansas State’s Tamara Slijepcevic finished third in the A Draw after beating Kansas’ Monica Pezzotti, Janie Nowland earned a victory in the B Draw and Ioana Teu earned a victory in the C Draw. Jess Heeps-Eriksen also Chiara Stefanaov won matches Sunday.
