Casino proposal 'too broad,' opponents say

LITTLE ROCK — Opponents of a ballot measure to give a private business the exclusive right to operate casinos in Arkansas say the proposal defines gambling so broadly that it would include some forms of pinball machines and games at state fairs.
The Arkansas Racing Alliance and professional poker player Nancy Todd disagreed on the proposal’s impact in briefs filed with the state Supreme Court on Monday. The alliance is a campaign funded by a Hot Springs horse track and has asked the court to block Todd’s measure from the ballot.
The group is challenging the wording of Todd’s amendment and the signatures she submitted to the state.
Todd argued the lawsuit is a thinly veiled last-minute attempt by two tracks to block a proposal from the ballot.
