PUBLIC VIEWPOINT Review Facts Before Voting For President

I was stunned to read the letter (Sept. 16) from June Whinnery.

And I was even further taken aback that this newspaper would print such trash.

Ms. Whinnery states that President Barack Obama has no human emotion.

She says he is a Godless man.

She states that he has no conscience.

She tells us that, “We also had immoral leaders to use people for their own gain. That is Obama.”

She says she voted for Obama, and is now sorry that she did for the simple reason he seemed to be a “family man,” but now says he only cares for his own family.

She accuses our president of “putting down” people who have built a business, and that he is jealous because he could never do it.

I support free speech and the right to an opinion, but the spouting of feelings that are not supportable by any facts whatsoever is only fanning the flames of misplaced trust and hate.

I will not try to search for the source or cause of that hate. That is for her to determine and deal with.

When we go to the polls this November, I hope each of us does so armed with “facts” that inform us of a person’s character and intentions in the hope that the change that happens will be affected by our intelligence, not our feelings.

VOTING FOR COODY

If you want the best

reason to vote for Dan Coody as mayor, then let Mayor Lioneld Jordan tell you in his own words.

In (Sept. 16’s) article detailing each candidate’s position on the current parking plan in our city (thank you, Northwest Arkansas Times), Mayor Jordan is quoted as saying, “Was it perfect? Maybe not. But we did the best we knew how.”

There you have it, sports fans. He did the best he knew how, just like the Hogs did against Alabama (my heart is breaking).

Everyone who is happy, or satisfied, with either performance, raise your hand. Hmmm, I don’t see any hands in the air.

Lioneld Jordan is a nice guy, and he has the best interest of our city in mind; but we need someone who knows what that means, not a trainee. For the best interest of our city, Vote Dan Coody.

FayettevilleBIBLE BELT OR PHARISEE BELT?

In Matthew 25:41-44,

Jesus said: “Then he will say ... Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat.”

Republicans say: Cut food stamps. Cut the lengthunemployment benefi ts are available, even if employers won’t interview a job candidate because of the time since he was laid off .

Don’t penalize companies that send jobs out of the country. Cut aid to cities and states, forcing them to lay off employees. Don’t pass stimulus programs that would create jobs.

“I was sick ... and you did not look after me.”

The debate moderator said, “What do you do about the person who fails to get insurance, then has an accident?

Do you just refuse him treatment?”

The audience said, “Yeh, Yeh, Yeh!”

Republicans say they will repeal the Patient Protection Act. Repeal will strip away coverage forthose with preexisting conditions, and young people now covered on their parents’ policies, very possibly working in their fi rst jobs with no health coverage off ered or aff ordable.

Policies will again become unaffordable for many.

Rather than each person paying as much of their medical expense as possible through insurance, those of us who have insurance will pay for their emergency care.

“Whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.”

What would Jesus say about the Republican platform?
