Arkansas schedules public events

Arkansas’ men’s and women’s teams will hold their first practices in an event free to the public, “Primetime at the Palace,” on Oct. 12 at Walton Arena in Fayetteville

The event will start at 8 p.m., with an autograph session followed by short practices by both teams.

Fans are encouraged to bring a nonperishable food item for donation. Collection bins will be located at each entrance to the arena.

ASU men in 14th place in Tennessee

Arkansas State’s men shot an opening-round 297 Friday at the Vanderbilt Legends Club to finish the Mason Rudolph Championship’s first day in 14th place in Franklin, Tenn.

Oklahoma leads the 15-team field with a 4-under-par 280, while Mississippi and College of Charleston are tied for second with a 285.

Easton Key is the Red Wolves’ top player after shooting a 2-over-par 73. Key recorded 13 pars to tie for the seventh most among all players, and he is currently tied for 33rd place.

The three-day tournament will continue Saturday with the second round.

WOMEN’S SOCCER

Harding defeats East Central

Harding defeated East Central 2-1 in the second overtime Friday in Great American Conference action in Ada, Okla.

The Lady Bisons (2-3, 0-1 GAC) scored the game-winning goal in the second minute of the second overtime when Jenna Taylor passed to Ashley Royce, who shot from the right side of the penalty box.

Harding also got a goal from Lauren Scharf in the 32nd minute. East Central tied it in the 72nd minute on a free kick when Carla Rodriguez passed to Taylor Graves.

Harding goalkeeper Danielle Nonaka tied her career high with 12 saves in the game.

The Lady Bisons will continue GAC action on Sunday as they travel to Bethany, Okla., to face Southern Nazarene.

VOLLEYBALL

SAU wins sixth consecutive

Southern Arkansas outlasted Arkansas-Monticello 25-18, 22-25, 26-24, 25-27, 15-11 to win its sixth consecutive match Thursday night in Magnolia.

Denise DeVine had 17 kills, Courtney Geesing had 16, Monica Cox added 12 and Cambria Martin and Courtney Smith each had 11 for the Lady Muleriders (8-2, 3-0 Great American Conference).

Amy Kleypas had 13 kills, Tusalava Kuaea had 12 and Victoria Bozzo added 10 for the Cotton Blossoms (3-10, 0-3).
