Rockets end 5-game skid

— Junior quarterback Zach Pinter ran for one touchdown and threw for another in Little Rock Catholic’s 28-8 victory over Little Rock Hall on Friday night at Scott Field in Little Rock.

The 7A/6A-Central opener was delayed about 10 minutes to begin the fourth quarter when Rockets junior safety Matthew Strack was injured covering a kickoff.

With the Rockets leading 21-0, Strack left the field on a stretcher as a precaution, but he was conscious and had movement in all his extremities.

Catholic Coach David Estes said Strack may have suffered a concussion.

On the first play after the delay, Hall scored its only touchdown on an 86-yard pass from senior quarterback Malik Shelton to wide receiver Terry Smith.

The play represented about half of the 153 total yards amassed by the Warriors (0-3, 0-1), who have lost 13 consecutive conference games and 10 consecutive games overall.

“At times, we lost our discipline,” Estes said, referring to Hall’s touchdown play. “They have athletes that can make you do that.”

Catholic (1-3, 1-0) put the game away on an 18-yard touchdown run by senior backup quarterback Bradley See with 4:39 remaining.

Sophomore tailback D.J. Brown ran 21 times for 142 yards, including a 28-yard touchdown run with 4:29 left in the first quarter.

Catholic, which broke a five-game losing streak, extended a 14-0 halftime lead to 21-0 when Pinter scored on an 18-yard draw on the final play of the third quarter.

Pinter also threw an 18-yard touchdown pass to senior wide receiver Grant Pool with 4:57 left in the first half.

The Rockets finished with 302 total yards, including 218 rushing.

Pool caught four passes for 41 yards.
