— AGFC approves plan for LR ramp

The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission approved Thursday the construction of a public boat ramp and parking area to provide access to the Arkansas River in downtown Little Rock.

The decision resulted in $411,000 planned expenditure on the project, which was proposed by Little Rock businessmen John Burkhalter. The AGFC will earmark $300,000 in its fiscal year 2013 budget and the remaining $111,000 in fiscal 2014.

The money will come from the Marine Fuel Tax funds, the state revenue generated by fuel used for boats.

Other items discussed included a memorandum of understand with Jacksonville for the use of a planned shooting range near the Holland Bottoms Wildlife Management Area.

The commission also donated an unused bridge to the city of Danville located in the agency’s Petit Jean Wildlife Management Area that will be used for a recreational trail.
