Fayetteville Woodland 14, Rogers High 6

—  Fayetteville Woodland only had one week to prepare for Rogers High’s veer option attack, but it didn't look like that on Thursday night.

The Cowboys defense held the Mounties to 166 total yards at Mountie Stadium.

Fayetteville Woodland also won the eighth-grade game 30-0.

“One week out of the year preparing for the veer option, it’s very tough,” Woodland coach Bobby Crockett said, “and our kids did a great job, and I was very proud of our effort.”

The Woodland defense forced two fumbles and blocked a PAT en route to a dominating performance in which it didn't surrender an offensive touchdown to the Mounties.

It wasn't all defense for the Cowboys however, as Woodland (3-1) put together a 12-play, 95 yard touchdown drive on its first offensive possession. Starting quarterback Fuller Chandler hit wide receiver Spencer Brown twice on the opening drive for gains of 27 and 32 yards before Luke Rapert was able to punch it from one-yard out to give the Cowboys the early 7-0 lead with a little over six minutes left in the second quarter.

Rogers' Joseph Sultemeir returned an interception 70 yards for a touchdown to pull the Mounties (2-2) within 7-6 before halftime.

Chandler threw for 102 yards and a touchdown as he hit Mason Petrino on a 21-yard strike to give Woodland the 14-6 lead.

Rogers goes on the road to play Springdale George next week, while Fayetteville Woodland has Bentonville Gold at home.
