Lottery scholarship study on agenda

LITTLE ROCK Legislators are to discuss a proposed study on how to award lottery-funded scholarships to Arkansas students who are most likely to finish college.
The Arkansas Lottery Commission Legislative Oversight Committee is to meet Tuesday afternoon, and one of the topics is how to reduce the number of lottery scholarship recipients who lose their scholarships or simply drop out.
The proposed study would examine a tiered scholarship award amounts and different eligibility requirements.
The nonrenewal rate for lottery-funded scholarships is 41.6 percent, a figure that inspired a number of lawmakers to take a look at how they can put the money in the hands of students who are most likely to succeed.
