Arkansas Racing Alliance sues to block casino proposal

LITTLE ROCK Opponents of a professional poker player’s bid to win exclusive rights to operate casinos in Arkansas have asked the state Supreme Court to block the proposal from the November ballot.
The Arkansas Racing Alliance on Tuesday asked justices to reject Nancy Todd’s proposed amendment. The lawsuit is the second surrounding Todd’s proposal, which would allow her to operate casinos in four counties.
The lawsuit challenges the legitimacy of the signatures Todd submitted for her proposal and the language of her proposed amendment. The group has asked the court appoint a special master to review its complaints about the petition signatures.
Justices are already considering Todd’s lawsuit challenging the state’s rejection of her proposal. Election officials said her measure would ban electronic gambling offered at a horse track and dog track.
