Sergeant David "D.J." Johnson with the Hope Police Department died Saturday after an 18-day bout with West Nile Virus, the police department said in a news release.
"This has been tremendously hard on the family as well as our department, especially those on the night shift that worked so closely with David," the police department said in a statement.
A celebration commemorating the life of Johnson is scheduled for Sept. 22 at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Hope.
