Drought conditions show some improvement

The latest Drought Monitor for Arkansas.
LITTLE ROCK Drought conditions in Arkansas improved some in the last week, but more than 46 percent of the state is still considered in an extreme drought.
The latest U.S. Drought Monitor, which was released Thursday and reflects conditions through Tuesday morning, shows about 12 percent of the state in an exceptional drought, the worst category. That was down only slightly from last week.
Extreme drought — the second-worst category — now covers 46.27 percent of Arkansas, down from 59.48 percent last week.
The National Weather Service said the numbers reflect improving conditions particularly in parts of northeast and eastern Arkansas.
