PERSONAL SPACE: Amber Perrodin

Where I live: I live in the historic district in downtown Springdale, right off of Main Street. My mother and my former stepfather bought this house in the early 1990s, and they went through, gutted and renovated and just did some incredible work. When it came time for them to move, my mother said since I had grown up in this house she’d offer to sell it to us. We jumped on the opportunity to buy the house from her. I wasn’t ready to watch it go. I had lived through all of those renovations and helped with a lot of them, so the house meant a lot to me.

Occupation: I work as a full-time artist, and my husband, Jonathan, and I have started something called Perrodin Supply Co. It’s an artist supply company. We provide canvases and artist panels for artists. That has really just boomed recently. We can’t work fast enough. I also do The Little Craft Show. It’s an independent craft show we started in Fayetteville. That has turned into a full-time job. Applications for that opened Monday. I also book artists for Arsaga’s.

My favorite space: My art studio.

Why? That’s where I do the bulk of my work. A lot of my artwork is emotionally driven so there is just that natural connection to that space. I’ve created a space that feels good to me and is a space that I want to go to.

If I could do one thing to improve this space I would: Add skylights for more natural lighting.
