Hollis Termination Hearing Delayed

— A hearing by the Fayetteville School Board to consider the recommended termination of a high school teacher has been postponed a third time.

The hearing was scheduled for 5 p.m. Monday. A new date has not been set.

A spokesman for Superintendent Vicki Thomas said the hearing was postponed Friday at the request of Tim Hollis, a teacher and drama and forensics coach at the high school, and his attorney, Bryan Vernetti of Bentonville. No reason for the postponement was given.

Thomas recommended Hollis’ termination in late June for his “insubordinate, inappropriate and offensive behavior” and defamatory statements made about Principal Steve Jacoby; for falsifying a district document and distributing it to teachers; for committing the use of district funds for improper purposes; and for inappropriate use of the district email system.

Hollis was suspended in May and directed by Thomas to apologize to Jacoby and to enroll in an anger management program. He filed a lawsuit within days of his suspension claiming the district violated his contract by suspending him, an action only the school board could take by district policy. The lawsuit has since been dismissed.
