Fast start lifts Bentonville past Broken Arrow

Posted: September 8, 2012 at 12:28 a.m.

— Reece Dollins fired a pair of first-quarter touchdown passes, and Bentonville went on to post a 20-10 victory over Broken Arrow in Friday’s nonconference action at Broken Arrow Memorial Stadium.

Dollins hit Kaleb Haney with a 10-yard touchdown pass, then connected with Trey Perkins for 24 yards and the score, giving Bentonville (2-0) a 14-0 lead with 1 minute, 56 seconds left in the first quarter. Dollins’ first touchdown pass was set up by Garrett Kaufman’s interception at midfield, while the second followed a partially blocked punt that gave the Tigers the ball at the Broken Arrow 36.

Broken Arrow (1-1) cut Bentonville’s lead to seven on a pair of occasions in the second alf, only to gave Dillon Wade counter with field goals. The Tigers’ senior kicker connected from 23 yards out with 48 seconds left in the third quarter, then closed out the scoring with an 18-yard kick with 1:47 left to play.

The game was delayed for more than two hours as kickoff didn’t take place until 9:50 p.m. Both teams were on the field warming up when lightning flashed within 5 miles of the stadium on two separate occasions.

Bentonville plays its final nonconference game next week when the Tigers host South Panola of Batesville, Miss.
