Brasuell, letterman for '64 champions, dies

— Jackie Brasuell, a key player on Arkansas’ 1964 football team which finished 11-0 and won a share of the national champion, died at his home in Wooster Wednesday night after a long bout with cancer. He was 67.

Brasuell, whose full name was Luther “Jack” Clyde Brasuell Jr., was an All-Southwest halfback in 1964 and 1965. He also played defensive back and returned kickoffs and punts. He was inducted into the Arkansas Sports Hall of Honor in 2007.

Brasuell grew up in Van Buren and came to Arkansas as a walk-on player. After graduating from Arkansas, he worked as a high school teacher and coach and later became a financial consultant and business owner.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home of Conway.Visitation will begin at noon preceding the service.
