Constant tuition increases, I believe, are a factor also. NWACC is the second most expensive community college in the state.

It is a real shame that NorthWest Arkansas Community College is the lowest funded community college in our state and yet the second largest community college in Arkansas. The equity funding formula needs to be revisited immediately.

Maximize - Re: equity funding

I agree that the funding formula should be evaluated. However, this is also the wealthiest area of the state. NWACC speaks continually of solid donor stewardship, funds that could and should be used for scholarships to assist students when tuition rates rise.

Operating revenues for public colleges are from tuition fees and state funding. If a college has a history of fiscal mismanagement, as NWACC does, tuition increases are inevitable. This community is one of the few in the state that is fortunate enough to receive additional revenue in the form of a millage. When looking at NWACC's own website, that millage generated almost 9 million for 2011.

Fiscal responsibility could have avoided double digit tuition increases in past years. And again, our students suffer.
