Historic Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket have Mass. appeal

Sailboats cluster in Edgartown’s harbor. Edgartown, a village on the island of Martha’s Vineyard, was the island’s first permanent settlement and a whaling port by 1825.
It could have happened this way: In the folklore of Wampanoag Indians, the islands were created by Maushop, a revered giant who inhabited Cape Cod long before the Wampanoags’ arrival.
