100 YEARS AGO Oct. 31, 1912 Gov. George W. Donaghey yesterday said he would not recommend to the legislature that an appropriation be made for a silver service for the battleship Arkansas. The governor declared he is opposed to such a bill, because Arkansas has not enough money to properly care for her paupers, much less buy silver service sets, and because the state was not treated fairly by the government officials in charge of the battleship.
