Bosnian mayor’s goals not veiled

In a city roughly 20 miles north of Sarajevo, a hijab-wearing Muslim woman named Amra Babic has been elected mayor. Muris Karavdic, 38, a small-business owner, says Babic won the election because of what’s between her ears, not what covers her head, adding, “She is smart and knows finances.”
When Amra Babic walks down the streets of the central Bosnian town of Visoko wearing her Muslim head scarf, men sitting in outdoor cafes instantly rise from their chairs, fix their clothes and put out their cigarettes.
