BOXING Steward dies Emanuel Steward, 68, the owner of the famed Kronk Gym in Detroit and a standout trainer for boxers including Thomas Hearns, Evander Holyfield and Oscar De La Hoya, died Thursday at a Chicago hospital. Victoria Kirton, Steward’s executive assistant, did not disclose the cause of death. Steward, who was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame, also trained Little Rock’s Jermain Taylor for four fights, including three successful middleweight title defenses, before Taylor got knocked out by Kelly Pavlik on Sept. 29, 2007.
