PUBLIC VIEWPOINT: Vote For ‘New Voice For New Direction’

Ihave followed Diana Gonzales Worthen and her progress as a candidate for the state Senate for the last couple of months and I feel compelled to add my 2 cents.

As a conservative and Springdale resident, I usually vote Republican because they tend to be the pro-business party. This year, however, I will be voting for Diana because her opponent is anything but pro-business.

In his time in the House, I cannot remember any specifi c pro-business legislation (Jon) Woods has sponsored. Moreover, when new businesses have applied for liquor licenses (i.e., Macadoodles), he has gone out of his way to object and try to prohibit them. How is that probusiness? He claimed to object for moral reasons, but where were his “morals” when he accepted campaign contributions from the same type of business? I have looked at his recent fi nancial reports and he has received several thousands of dollars from beer and wine distributors, lobbyists and PACs. It seems to me the only business he is for is the existing liquor monopoly.

Our politicians objectedto Sam’s Club, which resulted in the store moving to Fayetteville.

Every time I drive down Thompson (Street) and see that empty building it just makes me so mad at our elected oftcials for failing to show some leadership and costing us millions of dollars in revenue.

Woods also opposed the funding for the UAMSNWA campus, community clinics, AHECs and the statewide trauma center, all of which have brought millions to NWA and created hundreds of jobs.

Again, I ask, how is that pro-business?

Jon Woods advocatestime machines and tweets about Lady Gaga and Kim Kardashian, and not about bringing jobs to our area.

He appears to have no other job other than being a politician. He certainly is not pro-business.

After listening to Diana, an educator, say she is a “new voice for a new direction in Northwest Arkansas.” I now understand what she means. I intend to vote for Diana this year and I hope the citizens of Springdale will join me for the sake of our great city.
