Eve’s House offers women a safe place to transition to a new life

Daphany Ragland stands in front of Eve’s House, a North Little Rock transitional facility she founded for women who were homeless or being released from jail or prison. The name of the house, Ragland says, is “taking it back to the beginning. ... And really, that’s what we’re having to do ... start over, start fresh.”
For years, all Wanda Malone knew was abusing drugs and paying the consequences via a revolving door to prison. Her most recent stay behind bars lasted a year when she was released July 19. But she faced a problem common to those in her situation: a lack of resources to get back on her feet. Homeless, Malone lived in various places before finally accepting the invitation of a friend. That invitation has the potential to change her life.
