Man Accused Of Hit-And-Run

— A Fayetteville man was arrested Sunday in connection with a hit-and-run accident involving a woman on a bicycle.

Jose Ernesto, 25, of 2498 Jane Circle in Fayetteville was arrested in connection with felony leaving the scene of a personal injury accident and misdemeanor no proof of insurance or driver’s license.

Police responded to a report about a pickup striking a bicyclist at 11:53 a.m. Sunday at the intersection of Steele Boulevard and Joyce Avenue.

Ernesto reportedly left the scene of the accident in a red Dodge truck. He was found parked at a gasoline station wiping off the front bumper of his truck, according to the arrest report.

He was positively identified by the injured woman and witnesses.

The woman told police that Ernesto had gotten out of the truck after hitting her to check on her and left. She suffered several cuts, bruises and skin scrapes.

Ernesto was being held Sunday in the Washington County Detention Center with no bond.
