TV shows no longer live, die just by viewership

Claire Danes accepts the Emmy for best actress Sept. 23 for her role in Showtime’s Homeland.

A recent story in the Los Angeles Times headlined “Cable networks have become TV’s biggest stars” reminded me I needed to respond to several e-mails from puzzled readers that poured in after the Emmy Awards last month.
