Amtrak train hits 111 mph in test run

Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn (left) points out the 111 mph speed of the Amtrak train that he and U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood rode Friday on a test run between Dwight, Ill., and Pontiac, Ill.

An Amtrak train made a historic highspeed run on Friday through Illinois’ breadbasket — briefly clocking 111 miles per hour near Dwight, Ill., on the way to Pontiac.
