Arkansas’ unemployment rate dropped in September to 7.1 percent, down from 7.3 percent in August, the Department of Workforce Services said Friday.
Arkansas’ civilian labor force dropped by 2,700 in September, the department said, citing U.S. Labor Department’s Bureau of Labor Statistics figures. That decline was a result of 1,900 fewer unemployed and 800 fewer employed Arkansans, the department said.
The total Arkansas civilian labor force in September was put at 1,376,800, down from August’s 1,379,500.
“The number of both employed and unemployed Arkansans declined this month, resulting in a decrease in the size of the civilian labor force,” said department spokesman Kimberly Friedman. “This combination of losses triggered the drop in Arkansas’ unemployment rate. This decline in the rate mirrors the trend seen at the national level.”
The United States’ jobless rate declined to 7.8 percent in September, down three-tenths of a percentage point from August.
