Police: Custody Dispute Turned Violent

— A man faces felony charges after police said he beat his ex-girlfriend and took their child.

Stephano Marchello Oliver, 23, of 1855 W. Dean St. Apt. H was arrested in connection with felony first-degree endangering the welfare of a child and third-degree domestic battery.

Police went to 2754 Barcellona Drive for a welfare check Oct. 10, according to an arrest report.

Sara Barker said Oliver was keeping their 2-year-old son for three days when he brought the child to Barker because he ran out of food. Barker said the child would stay with her, according to the report.

Oliver grabbed Barker by the throat, punched her and pushed her to the ground, police said. He picked up the child and tried to leave but was confronted by the child’s grandfather. Police said Oliver threw the child onto the sidewalk to confront the grandfather. He then picked the child up and left.

Oliver was in the Washington County Detention Center on $100,000 bond Thursday. Police would not discuss the child’s whereabouts.
