Saxophone quartet swings with Fort Smith Symphony

The Capitol Quartet formed in 1991 and has traveled the world to perform with symphonies. The group performs Saturday night with the Fort Smith Symphony in a program titled “A Swingsational Classical Makeover.”

In an alternate reality, saxophones would be prominently featured in orchestras. The instrument was made for that very purpose, explains David Stambler, associate professor of saxophone at Penn State University. Adolphe Sax designed them to bolster the woodwinds and be more versatile than the brass.
