PUBLIC VIEWPOINT: Biker Acknowledges Care After Wreck

With so much strife and ugliness occurring on this planet every day, I feel it necessary to acknowledge the best side of humanity that I observed on Sept. 26 at about 5:30 p.m. while visiting Fayetteville for the Bikes, Blues & BBQ rally.

Yes, you may have guessed I am a biker who has come up to Northwest Arkansas for the past four years. I had a rear tire blowout just as I merged onto Interstate 540 north from Fayetteville headed to Bella Vista. Not the first time nor will it be the last time I visit the pavement of a highway or byway.

The impressive part of this unwanted event was the caring, concern and compassion I and my companion were extended by the witnesses, EMTs, law enforcement officers, hospital staff, hotel and resort staff and everyone up there in the northwest part of Arkansas.

I have been a part of and witnessed similar events in my lifetime, however, this was the first time I felt so much love and concern for my well-being or anyone else’s well-being.

Thank you all - too many people to remember your names - but I will never forget your caring and concern. I cried not because of the accident but because you all renewed my hope for humanity. Life is a dear gift and love for one another is more dear.

Thanks again and here is a special shout-out to all the staff of Washington Regional Medical Center.
