Rolling Pin Cafe is a family-owned restaurant that has served patrons made-from-scratch comfort food for generations.

The original location opened in 1993 in the southeast corner of East Square Plaza at Crossover and East Huntsville roads. In August, the original owner opened Rolling Pin Express at 3120 Martin Luther King Blvd.

Gayle Teague has a wealth of experience in the restaurant business. She and her husband owned and operated Wesner’s Grill in downtown Rogers from 1977 to 1991, serving notable people including former President Bill Clinton, philanthropist Alice Walton and comedian/actor Jonathan Winters. The homemade pie served grew in reputation and drew in customers from all over the area. Certain customers would come in and have dessert first, then order a main course.

In the early 1990s, Teague saw an opportunity to work closer to home and opened the Rolling Pin Cafe. After another 15 years of restaurant operation, she chose to hang up the apron and pursue another line of work, but she missed interacting with her customers.

“I love to cook,” she said. “All the recipes are my own, and I want our customers to be happy with the food and the service.”

Teague is quick to recognize the businesses and community members that have helped her return to her calling.

“I really want to thank all the people who helped me get [The Rolling Pin Express] going — [son] Travis [Freeman] and [his wife] Devona are both very important to helping make this happen; all the good people at Mathias Properties; Don Cobb with D-Sign did the signage; Bob Thompson with Farmer Brothers Coffee; Arvest Bank; Sandy at ARECO Restaurant Supply in Fayetteville; Tony Wing at Sysco. Thank you to all of the vendors, family members and loyal customers.”

The original Rolling Pin Cafe remains and is owned and operated by her son and daughter-in-law. The menus at both locations are similar and include Southern “comfort food.”

The baking starts well before dawn each morning. Fresh rolls and biscuits, house-made pies and preparation for the daily lunch special typically top the list. Pie selections include coconut, chocolate, rhubarb, pecan, peanut butter and cherry.

The breakfast menu offers omelets, biscuits with cream or chocolate gravy, grits, bacon, sausage, ham, chopped sirloin, chicken-fried steak, pancakes and house-made hashbrowns. The Western omelet is one of the most popular selections, along with the made-from-scratch biscuits and gravy.

Lunch items include a hamburger, grilled ham and cheese, chicken tenders, chicken-fried chicken, chili, stew and more. Lunch specials vary daily and can include turkey and dressing, fried chicken and meatloaf.

Express orders can be called in ahead of time and picked up at the drive-thru.
