Injuries Continue To Mount For Rogers

— Rogers couldn’t overcome another rash of injuries Friday in a 29-0 loss to Fayetteville.

With almost 80 percent of its offensive production on the sideline, Rogers managed just 203 yards of offense. But the Mounties missed chances to score early that could have changed the complexion of the game.

Rogers forced Fayetteville into a three-and-out on the game’s first possession. The Mounties drove to the Bulldogs’ 14, but an intentional grounding call turned the scoring opportunity into a missed field goal.

Rogers again stopped the Bulldogs and was driving on its second possession, but Max Harrell’s pass was intercepted and Fayetteville responded with a quick touchdown drive to start a 29-0 run.

The Mounties picked up 53 yards on their first drive, and a 52-yard run in the fourth quarter accounted for the bulk of the offense as the Bulldogs defense was solid against the triple option.

Play of the Night: Rogers didn’t generate much offense, but Ty Galyean had a 52-yard run early in the fourth quarter to set the Mounties up at the Fayetteville 25. However, the drive ended on downs inside the Bulldogs’ 10.

Injury Update: Rogers quarterbacks Nick Wary (ankle) and Max Harrell (knee) both left the game. Wary was hurt early in last week’s game and appeared to re-injure his right ankle. Fullback Preston Young returned after missing two games with an ankle injury and may have suffered a knee injury on his only carry of the game, a 16-yard run.

Player of the Game: Galyean finished the night with 89 yards on 12 carries. In addition to his 52-yard run, the junior also had a 17-yard gain.

Notable: The longest run of the night came courtesy of a streaker. At the end of the third quarter, a male subject entered the field from the north end of the stadium wearing only a ski mask. He ran the length of the field as two Rogers police officers and several school officials gave chase. The streaker was arrested as he tried to leave through a locked gate on the south end of the stadium.

The Lingo: “We definitely had our opportunities, but made key mistakes. Missed some reads, and the pick hurt. Being close and not putting it in, it’s a big momentum change. The defense played well, and they are getting better each week.”

Up Next: Rogers will look to get back on track when they visit Jarrell Williams Bulldog Stadium on Friday to face Springdale Har-Ber. Har-Ber leads the series with Rogers 6-1, and the Wildcats have won the last six meetings, including last year when they escaped Mountie Stadium with a 35-28 victory.
