Severe storms possible for parts of state

— Severe thunderstorms are possible Thursday night in much of northern Arkansas and more severe storms could be on the way this weekend, forecasters said.

John Robinson, senior warning coordination meteorologist with the National Weather Service in North Little Rock, said the northern two or three rows of counties could see severe storms capable of producing large hail and up to an inch of rain starting late Thursday night.

A cold front will then move into the region Saturday night, ushering in another chance for severe weather.

"Instability appears to be the big question at this point, so it's hard to say right now how big the severe weather threat will be," Robinson wrote in a statement. "It does appear likely that areas to the west and north of the state will have the best chances for severe weather."

In Little Rock has a 30 percent chance of thunderstorms Thursday night, the weather service said. Those storms are not expected to reach severe levels.
