Community College Trustee Resigns

HINDMARSH SAYS SHE PLANS TO MOVE OUT OF HER BOARD-ZONED SEAT IN THE NEAR FUTURE

— A NorthWest Arkansas Community College trustee announced her resignation Wednesday.

Hadley Hindmarsh said she plans to move out of her board-zoned seat in the near future.

In a letter sent to Becky Paneitz, college president, Hindmarsh also resigned her position as honorary chairwoman of the Campaign and Advocacy Committee for the Southern Regional National Child Protection Training Center, which is run through the college.

“After thoughtful consideration, I have decided to resign my position as a Member of the Northwest Arkansas Board of Trustees,” Hindmarsh stated in the letter. “Because my position will be filled by gubernatorial appointment, my resignation is intended to be effective immediately with the hope that the process of appointing my successor can begin sooner rather than later.”

Hindmarsh said her early resignation could allow a board member to be appointed prior to a board decision on a presidential candidate.

Paneitz announced her retirement earlier this year. Her last day will be June 30. The college is in the process of reviewing candidates. Plans include board members interviewing three presidential candidates at the start of November.

Hindmarsh didn’t file for re-election for her board seat. The election is Nov. 6.

Steven Hinds, college executive director of public relations and marketing, said a letter was sent to Gov. Mike Beebe on Oct. 5. The letter notified the governor two positions on the board will become open Jan. 1. One of those positions, Zone 5, is Hindmarsh’s. The other is Zone 8. None of the current board members live in that zone following a rezoning required by state law due to minority population in the district.

Hinds said Beebe will decided whether to appoint someone to Hindmarsh’s seat prior to the election. He said it also will be the governor’s decision whether to re-appoint someone following the election.

Paneitz said in a news release Hindmarsh has been a strong leader on the board.

“She also provided strong leadership to the capital campaign for the National Child Protection Training Center,” Paneitz said. “Her service on behalf of NWACC has been significant, and we appreciate all that she has done on behalf of the community college. We wish her all the best in her future endeavors and thank her for her dedicated service.”

Hindmarsh said it has been an honor to serve on the board.

“Exceptional work is being done by the faculty, staff and administration at NWACC and I wish you all the best,” Hindmarsh said in her letter.
