PUBLIC VIEWPOINT: Tree ‘Butchering’ In Rogers Is Wrong

If anyone else is upset about the way Swepco is trimming (I would say butchering) our trees around Rogers, please write to Swepco and complain.

The city of Rogers says nothing can be done, but there is power in numbers.

If enough people complain, maybe something can be done. It’s awful to see old maple trees on South Fourth and other streets literally cut in half. There is no need for this. You don’t see this in Bentonville. They buy their electricity from Swepco and the city of Bentonville maintains the lines. They trim the tress moderately and in an aesthetic way.

They don’t have any more power outages than we do in Rogers. Too bad the city of Rogers does not own its own power company as Bentonville does.

Here is the address for Swepco. Their main office is down in Louisiana now.

We don’t even have a local office we can complain to.

I hope other concerned citizens will complain to them as I have. We are supposed to be a tree city.

That is a joke after Swepco comes through every five or six years. I don’t know about the rest of you, but I play plenty for my electricity every month. You would think the power company would care a little bit about what their own customers think.

DON’T BE GULLIBLE

Regarding Buddy Rogers’ commentary “Can Romney Overcome Bias for Obama?” (Sept. 30), the answer is a simple yes, if and when he takes off his kid gloves.

Obama is vulnerable on several points: jobs, economy, debt, etc. This election, however, is not a boxing match with Marquis of Queensbury Rules. It is a very serious contest between two different points of view and better viewed as a street fight with no holds barred.

At stake is the very life of this republic, not only for us but for those yet unborn.

Looking at his record of the last four years and ignoring them would be akin to disbelieving “Mein Kampf” in 1939, which would be the acme of gullibility.
