Skeletal remains found along Arkansas River

Posted: October 9, 2012 at 2:31 p.m.

— Crawford County Sheriff Ron Brown says authorities are trying to identify skeletal remains found by a hunter along the Arkansas River.

Brown told the Southwest Times on Tuesday that a human skull and other remains were found Monday in a remote area that’s easily accessible only by boat.

Brown says the remains appear to have been there for several weeks or months and are being sent to the state Crime Laboratory in Little Rock in an effort to identify them and determine a cause of death.

Brown says he’ll also be notifying law enforcement agencies in Arkansas and neighboring Oklahoma of the discovery.
