Lt. Gov. Darr backs sales tax for highways

LITTLE ROCK — Republican Lt. Gov. Mark Darr says he supports increasing Arkansas’ sales tax to pay for highway improvements.
Darr announced Tuesday that he supports a proposed constitutional amendment on the Nov. 6 ballot that would raise the state’s sales tax a half-cent to pay for a $1.8 billion highway improvement program.
Darr was elected lieutenant governor in 2010 partly on an anti-tax campaign. He also signed a pledge to oppose “any and all” efforts to raise taxes.
Darr said in a statement released by his office that he supports the tax proposal because of the 40,000 private jobs supporters say it will create and the traffic congestion they say it will ease around the state.
Darr said doing nothing would be more costly to the state than the tax.

Well now who does that really supprise. He us a democrart which, by their very nature, is to rase taxes. Democrates never saw a tax they didn;t like unless it was on condomsl
