UA System to switch health insurance providers

LITTLE ROCK — The University of Arkansas System is changing health insurance companies.
The system on Monday said it will start using UnitedHealthcare and will end a contract with QualChoice that it has had since 1995.
Arkansas Business reports that QualChoice is partly owned by the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.
The UA System is to make the switch on Jan. 1. The change will affect about 35,000 employees and dependents covered under the system.
The UA’s health plan includes campuses at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, Pine Bluff and UAMS.
The UA System says it is having trouble keeping up with health insurance costs so it looked at ways to lower administrative fees and asked for bids for the health insurance contract.
