Turks promote Syrian vice president to lead in Damascus

Turkish troops guard a station at the border with Syria, across from the Syrian rebel-controlled town of Tel Abyad, in Akcakale, Turkey, on Sunday.
Turkey and Syria fired artillery and mortars across their volatile border for a fifth consecutive day on Sunday, in one of the most serious and prolonged flare-ups of violence along the frontier.
